Becoming a Dutch Citizen

Being a British citizen, I have had a lot of questions following the UK’s vote to leave the EU, as I know many of my fellow Brits have had as well. And while there are no definite answers yet on what Brexit will mean for us, I wanted to be sure that my future here in the Netherlands with my Dutch partner and child would not be affected.

Last month, the IWCN shared an update on the Brexit negotiations. It included some of the voluntary options currently available for those wishing to make their stay in the Netherlands more permanent. I plan to make my stay here in the Netherlands long term, so I was interested to read about the two ways you can become a Dutch citizen, and what it would mean for me.

The IWCN has a useful information booklet that gives a good overview of both options, plus links for more information on the IND website.

You can also find more information on the IWCN website. Or if you have questions you would like answered in person, visit the IWCN in Groningen; opening hours and contact information can be found on their website.
